Abstract

|
This study explored the factors that kept a sexually abused middle school student feeling fearful and unable to tell the truth to her family. It highlighted the therapeutic factors that enabled the family to understand and support her. The authors found that family support is crucial in helping family members, particularly adolescents, who have been sexually abused, and that an open and functional communication style is the most important factor in creating a supportive family environment.
